Claws out against Barooga

On the second day of round three, the under-14s were bowling against Barooga – and with a very handy 47 run lead.

But the Cats knew the tables could turn at any moment, so they kept to the game as if they were behind.

And great determination in the field from newcomer Max Knight set the bar for the Cats, along with some great work in the bowling, which saw Maddie Price, Evan Lawton and Max all taking wickets.

Barooga ended up taking over the run chase, and leading it by 15 runs, finishing on 8/116 after 40 overs.

The Cats now went into bat, with Ryan Bauer (42*) retiring early but the team kept right on going and soon after hit the front and the win.

The Cats batted for as long as they could, with Nick Chesworth (11) hanging around and seeing the overs out.

Although some confusion between the stumps saw a couple of quick wickets fall, the Cats finished on 8/161 after 37 overs – a great win for the youngsters.

Thursday night saw Finley A-Grade playing Berrigan under lights in round four.

Berrigan won the toss electing to bat, and put on 8/213.

Matt Wilson was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/37. Justin Crowley, Bailey Coombs and Dan Eldridge also bowled well each picking up a wicket.

Finley went in to bat and lost a quick wicket, before Justin Crowley (42) and Cougar McGrath (15) steadied the ship to keep the Cats heading in the right direction.

Then a middle order collapse brought Will Sexton to the crease, and he didn’t hold back, smacking 49 off 29 balls to give the Cats a respectable total of 148 before they were bowled out in the 38th over.

There is big improvement each week we come out and a win won’t be far away.
