Well stocked: Rich River Golf Club marketing manager Paul Lavars is ready for the Fishing on the Fairways event this Sunday.

Are you looking for an event to enjoy with your dad on Father’s Day?

If the answer is yes, then Rich River Golf Club could be the spot for you.

The club is hosting its annual Fishing on the Fairways event on Sunday, September 4 from 11am to 3pm.

Rich River Golf Club marketing manager Paul Lavars said the event would use five to six lakes.

“When we held this event for the first time three years ago, the course had been here 40 years and there were people pulling out sizeable fish,” he said.

“There was an 87cm Murray cod and plenty of monster-sized carp.

“During COVID, we were able to restock the lakes with 500 yellowbelly and 500 Murray cod.

“They’ve had time to grow, so we could possibly see bigger fish caught this weekend than last time.”

Mr Lavars is expecting a “few hundred people” to take part, with an array of prizes on offer.

“There’s $400 Blue Sky vouchers for the person who can catch the biggest cod, biggest yellowbelly and biggest carp,” he said.

“We’ll also be running a raffle where there will be 30 prizes on offer, including Shimano rods, nets, camping gear and much more.

“The event is a heap of fun.

“We’ll have food and drink golf carts getting around the lakes stocked with pies, sausage rolls and soft drinks.”

Entry tickets are $15 per person or $50 for a family pass (two adults and up to three children).

Mr Lavars said tickets must be purchased by Saturday evening.

When the on-course action is complete, you can stick around and enjoy the roast carvery, which is on for both lunch and dinner.
