Wolfsburg players are set to accompany German rail conductors over a whole day as a sanction for disrespectful behaviour towards train staff during a trip to a game in October.

Some Wolfsburg players had not worn the mandatory face mask on the journey to the game at Bayer Leverkusen, and had made fun of a conductor who had asked them to wear them. The scenes were recorded by an employee of broadcasters WDR who was on the train.

The top-flight Bundesliga club had swiftly criticised "the unprofessional and inappropriate behaviour" of the players in question.

Their managing director for sport Jörg Schmadtke has told the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung paper that they are looking into several ideas.

He said the solution favoured at the moment being "to accompany conductors on their tour - for a whole day."
