Art exhibition in Numurkah

Judging: Last year’s Arts and Craft Exhibition in Numurkah.

The Numurkah Rotary Club is hosting its 42nd Annual Art and Craft Exhibition from March 11 to 14, with profits going to the Community Aged Care Bus Project.

The exhibition will be open from 7pm on March 11 and from 10am to 6pm on March 12 and 13, closing on March 14 at 4pm.

Funds raised from the exhibition will fund the Community Aged Care Bus Project, which is undertaken by Numurkah Rotary and NCN Health Numurkah.

A display of paintings, craft works and photography will be on offer.

This year’s show has 20 awards totalling $10,000 including best in show, best in oil, watercolour, pastel with a further 10 awards given by the exhibition’s sponsors.

There are also awards for best craft exhibit, knitting and crochet, woodwork and metalwork, quilt awards and craft awards.

The public can play judge and cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award, which is chosen by vote with a $100 prize given to the artist.

The Rotary Club is also raffling The Dry, an Anne Grogan painting valued at $350.

This year’s painting judge is Lyn Mellady who has won a number of awards and whose work is in five government collections. She also teaches art.

Clare Reid is this year’s craft judge; she is a textile teacher at Numurkah Secondary College and has worked in mediums including pattern-making, dress-making and lace-making.

Over its history, the exhibition has raised more than $300,000 for local charities from exhibitor, sponsor and community support.

Wayne Limbrick will open the exhibition on the Friday evening, which will feature wine and cheese tasting from Monichino Wines and music by pianist Geoff Austin.

Awards will also be announced on this evening in each section.

Opening night admission is $8 which includes supper; admission is $5 for the remaining days and includes a catalogue of works on display.

Sunday, March 13: 10 am-6 pm;

Monday, March 14: 10 am-4 pm.
