Cobram’s Megan Klippel is making history after being elected to the position of Lieutenant with the Cobram Fire Brigade.
Ms Klippel is the first female Lieutenant in the brigade’s history.
The dedicated volunteer joined the Cobram CFA back in 2014 with the goal to give back to the community where she was born and raised.
Her hard work over the years has paid off as Ms Klippel joins the ranks of Lieutenant.
“My fellow members saw my potential and skill set and because of them, I was nominated and elected,” Ms Klippel said.
“It’s an important role to take on I feel humbled to be elected.”
Ms Klippell will work alongside her brother, third Lieutenant Danny Klippel.
Danny joined the brigade a year after Megan, after hearing her speak passionately about volunteering.
“As Lieutenants, we maintain the vehicles to make sure they’re ready to go, especially for the summer season, and maintain the equipment.”
Ms Klippel encouraged other women in her community to chase their goals.
“I feel proud of my achievements and it’s thanks to my fellow members to see beyond my gender and recognise my capabilities,” she said.
Despite the tough realities of the job, Ms Klippel said the Cobram Fire Brigade will always support its members.
“The brigade is really supportive, so if we ever need help in any way, we’re there for each other,” she said.
“I’ve made many great mates at the fire station, not just in Cobram but across all the brigades.
“I’ll always enjoy the satisfaction of knowing I've helped the community.”
