Best of pets: Our favourite pet page photos from last year

Monique Preston looks back at some of the stories she did for the ‘Pet-icular kind of love’ page for the News last year.

A ferret, a lamb and a frog were just some of the more unusual animals the News featured in its ‘Pet-icular kind of love’ page in 2021.

They joined a flurry of dogs and cats as beloved pets that lived in homes, or at businesses or schools, throughout the Goulburn Valley to feature on the page.

Choosing favourites from all the pets featured is like choosing a favourite child. It is just not possible.

Instead, we decided to feature some of our favourite photos of the many pets we covered.

Vibrant: Bugsy the green tree frog is just one of two pets at Mooroopna North Primary School. The other is a blue-tongued lizard named Motley. Photo by Rodney Braithwaite
Great company: Lynda Bruce loves spending time with her chocolate Labrador Ruby. The breast cancer survivor has a funny story about the day “the dog ate my boob” when Ruby swooped in and ran off with her breast prosthesis, piercing the silicone mould. Photo by Megan Fisher

Keeping watch: Pud the cat spends his days lording over his shop, greeting customers and encouraging pats at Shepparton’s Sabac Giftware after arriving at the store as a stray about three years ago. Photo by Megan Fisher
Class act: Mr Freckles the lamb calls Shepparton East Primary School home and is a much-loved member of the school community. Photo by Kloe O'Keefe
Tastes good: Border collie puppy Tuxedo was 18 weeks old when we caught up with him and his human family Deanne Nobbs and Dallas, Brodie, 17, and Riley Wooster, 10. One of his favourite things to do is play with this toy banana. Photo by Megan Fisher
