Greater Shepparton City Council is hosting a candidate information session next week, providing an opportunity for residents to gain insight into the role of a councillor.
The session will be held on Thursday, July 20, from noon to 1pm at the North Shepparton Community and Learning Centre at 10/14 Parkside Dve, Shepparton.
During the session, attendees will learn about the responsibilities, time commitments, and general requirements outlined in the Local Government Act 2020.
This information is particularly valuable as the 2024 council elections approach.
Participants can expect to gain a better understanding of what it means to be a councillor and, hopefully, feel inspired to consider running for office in the future.
“Council is an inclusive and safe space, and Greater Shepparton councillors represent the bold, multicultural community which our region is known for,” council chief executive Peter Harriott said.
“Everyone is welcome to attend the information session, with women from the Greater Shepparton community encouraged to come along.”
The session will feature City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Andrea Metcalf as guest speaker.
Cr Metcalf will share her personal journey to council and her experiences in the role of a councillor.
Residents interested in attending the session are requested to RSVP by Friday, July 14, at shepp.city/candidateinfo
Light catering and tea and coffee will be provided at the event.
