The Philippine House in Shepparton is celebrating its 35th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the history of the building and the community it represents.

Located at 45 Evergreen Way in Shepparton, the Philippine House was completed in 1988 as part of the former International Village with support from the Filipino-Australian Friends Association Northern Victoria and council.

On March 27, 1988, the official opening ceremony was held, welcoming dignitaries, community members and visitors to various displays of culture and heritage of the Philippines.

Today, the Philippine House remains a heritage-listed building and a vital part of the Filipino community in Shepparton.

FAFA members and the community will gather once again to commemorate the building's 35th anniversary, as well as honour the members who have passed, and celebrate the vibrant presence it still represents in the community.

Lifetime member of FAFA and foundation member of the Philippine House Nora McCarthy expressed her gratitude for the hard work, determination and vision of late officers, including Bill McCarthy, Ron Morey, Geoff Walsgott and Colin Fitzpatrick, and the founder, Edith Dizon-Fitzsimmons.

She said the event was “a time to remember, a time to reflect, be thankful and grateful” for their contributions and legacy.

The celebration is to be held on Saturday, April 15, and will include a private lunch, dances, speeches and certificate-giving at the Philippine House.
