Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) has again opened its doors to local artists with the return of SAM Open 2024, an annual open-call group exhibition.
SAM Open provides a platform for local artists to share their creativity with the broader community and display their work alongside nationally recognised Australian artists each year.
This year’s exhibition, which opened on Saturday, August 17, in the museum’s Hugh D.T. Williamson Community Gallery, is a vibrant showcase of creativity from artists living or working in the Goulburn Valley and Hume regions.
This year’s theme, Remnants, memories and objects, encouraged creatives to share their personal experiences and explore objects and memories that have shaped their lives.
Artists have interpreted the theme through various mediums, from photography and poetry, to ceramics and sculpture, each offering a unique perspective.
Each perspective invites viewers to consider their own stories and the objects that hold meaning in their lives.
SAM Open 2024 received 70 submissions, all of which have been included in the exhibition.
“Each year I have been thrilled and surprised by the breadth of talent in our community when the submissions to SAM Open roll in, and this year is no exception,” SAM’s Community Curator Caroline Esbenshade said.
“The responses to the theme of ‘Remnants, memories and objects’ are richly diverse, but as always, there is something for everyone.
“This show is a beautiful snapshot of the creativity of our community,”
The exhibition runs until November 17.
