Greater Shepparton City Council says the summer holiday season has restricted efforts to clean up debris in Tatura left behind by a pre-Christmas storm.

The storm caused widespread damage across the Goulburn Valley on December 22, including hail stripping trees of fruit and leaves on some properties in the Tatura, Ardmona and Bunbartha areas, causing estimated losses of $50 million for commercial growers.

In Tatura, some residents have questioned when council would remove the storm debris, declaring it an eyesore and fire risk.

Council director infrastructure Gary Randhawa said clean-up efforts had been held up by the holiday season.

“Council is aware of the need for further clean-up in Tatura after the storm,” he said.

“Given the time of the year the event happened, council resources are very limited and for this week are still limited.”

However, Mr Randhawa said a clean-up operation would continue as resources became available.

“Council will continue the clean-up efforts at Tatura over the coming weeks,” he said.
