When the GV Orchid Club held their first show, they unknowingly planted a seed of success in the community.
For 42 years, the club’s annual spring show has grown into a floral arrangement of hundreds, delivering on its name, ‘Spring Spectacular’.
On September 23 and 24, the popular event returns to the Kialla Paceway with around 300 plants on display and many on sale.
“We have three new growers this year from Orchids on Newbold, Orchids of Distinction and Kings Orchids,” club president Chris Ibbotson said.
“Club members can bring plants to the sale too — different mixtures of orchids will be coming from Merrigum, Seymour, Yarrawonga, Cobram, all around our 100km radius.”
In addition to the plants, there’ll be potting accessory sales, photography, raffles and potting demonstrations at 10am and 2pm on both days.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by and smell the flowers, and meet and chat with members and growers about all things orchids.
“We have about 100 members, some have been involved for 50 years, so there’ll be plenty of experts running around the show to give people advice,” Mrs Ibbotson said.
Though it has been a colder summer and some flowers haven’t opened, Mrs Ibbotson said it did not affect the number of plants at the show.
GV Orchid Club's Spring Spectacular show is on Saturday, September 23 from 9am to 4pm, and Sunday, September 24 from 10am to 3pm at Kialla Paceway, 7580 Goulburn Valley Hwy, Kialla.
Light lunch, morning and afternoon tea will be available. Entry is $5 and free for kids under 16.
