Shepparton Teej Festival blooms with cultural vibrancy and community spirit

On September 14, the Greater Shepparton Nepalese Community jubilantly hosted the Shepparton Teej Festival at the GV Hotel.

The festival, Teej, has religious and cultural significance in Nepal and is colloquially dubbed the Women’s Festival.

It’s a festivity filled with hope and joy, underpinning the theme of women’s empowerment in Nepalese society.

The Shepparton Teej Festival was honoured to receive substantial support from Greater Shepparton City Council, alongside additional backing from several local enterprises. The event saw a turnout of over 200 attendees, epitomising a genuine community-driven and inclusive affair.

City of Greater Shepparton Cr Greg James and state Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe were among the notable guests.

Guests were welcomed with traditional Nepalese scarves presented by community children.

Among the festival’s highlights were performances by Nepali folk singers and a Nepali buffet dinner.

The organising committee’s relentless efforts, led by community secretary Bishal Jung Kunwar, were the cornerstone in making the festival a resounding success.

Community president Gyan Lama extended his gratitude to all attendees and community members for their contribution and support, making the festival a memorable occasion that splendidly showcased the community’s culture and spirit.
