The Barooga Sporties kitchen was recently filled with a special team of chefs, and the dining room had an even more special crowd of diners.

As part of their VET course assessments, students from Cobram Secondary College were there to prepare a delicious four-course meal, flavoured specially with gratitude.

The ‘Thank you Dinner’ was an opportunity to celebrate the sponsors of Cobram Secondary College.

Among the list of attendees included members from the Cobram-Barooga RSL, Stanyer Engineering Ltd and North Vic Parts.

The rush of the kitchen matched the cutlery-clacking atmosphere of the Sporties, as students hastily prepared ingredients and dishes for service.

It was well worth the wait when the food came out.

The menu began with a mushroom cappuccino appetiser, followed by an open chicken caprese sandwich and a dish of hash brown, avocado, gypsy ham and poached egg with hollandaise sauce for entrées.

Following this were the main course options — spaghetti bolognese with parmesan cheese and side salad or steamed fish on mash with panzanella salad.

The meal was finished with desserts which included baked apple and blueberry pancake with blueberry coulis, as well as fried banana with caramel sauce and cinnamon cream.

The meal received a mass of positive feedback.

“Well done to the VET class for a scrumptious meal, the students did an amazing job. Thank you to all, it was wonderful,” Stanyer Engineering Ltd’s Liana Stanyer said.

Another attendee, Anne Myers, also praised the students for their hard work.

“We had the pleasure of attending this lunch … these kids did an amazing job … it was delicious and presentation was awesome … well done to everyone concerned,” she said.

The students regularly use the Sporties kitchen every Wednesday as part of their VET training.

The space is perfect to teach them the skills used in a real, fully fitted kitchen.

This day presented an opportunity to complete their assessments while treating some of the school’s biggest supporters to the delicious yield of their hard work.
