School’s back this week for hundreds of students, with many set to start the first day of their academic lives.

Tex Avard is just one of those students.

Tuesday morning, he’ll step into Rochester Primary School to begin his first day of Prep.

Not only that, but his dad, Josh Avard, has worked at the school in the IT department for the past two years. So the father-son bond will be continuing into his work.

They’re both excited, enjoying different aspects of the new plans.

Tex said he was excited about school and thinks being at the school his dad works at “will be fun”.

Mr Avard feels the same.

“It’s exciting. It’s really exciting,” he said.

Tex said he was also excited about meeting his new teachers and fellow students.

The pair spend a lot of time together, participating in Auskick, playing at home and now sharing their education and working arrangements.

In preparation for the school year, Mr Avard and Tex have been practising their letters and numbers.

Learning to count numbers isn’t the only thing the family is adding to the equation, with a baby expected in three weeks.

“So we’ve got one going off to school and one just starting and I’m really excited for this [Tex starting school],” Mr Avard said.

“This is why I joined the industry was to have moments like this.”

In 2030, Tex will graduate from primary school and in 2036, he’ll be in his last year of high school.

But for now, he’s just excited to be beginning Prep, with his dad by his side.
