Winter days may be dwindling, but rest assured there’ll be no shortage of events in the region this weekend.

SATURDAY

Hockey Australia Country Championships

Shepparton Sports City will be hosting a fierce showdown as men and women from across Australia compete for the national championships. Medal matches are to be played on the final two days of the event, which concludes on August 12. Don’t miss out on the action!

Where: Shepparton Sports City, Hockey Complex

When: Starting times vary each day and matches will be between 8.15am and 6.45pm

Cost: Free for spectators

Learn to Shred Shepparton

Rolling through Shepparton this Saturday is the legendary Renton Millar, back for another Learn to Shred program at Shepparton Skate Park. Suitable for all ages and abilities, both beginner and experienced skaters will have much to learn from the former world champion and Olympic skateboard judge.

Shepparton Gators v RMIT Redbacks semi-final

The Shepparton Gators take on the RMIT Redbacks, battling it out at the Swamp for a fast-track straight into the grand final. The Gators have performed consistently all year — their proficiency and pizazz worthy of this season’s packed-out stadiums. Tickets available at the door. Arrive early to secure a seat. Bring your posters, as there’ll be prizes for the best signs. Go Gators!

Women Only Swimming — This Girl Can

This one’s for the ladies! Aquamoves is once again partnering with VicHealth in its ‘This Girl Can — Victoria’ campaign to host another women-only swimming session. From 5.30pm to 8.30pm, women can feel empowered to get active and overcome feelings of judgment with a swim in the indoor 25m, leisure or hydrotherapy pools, or relax in the sauna and spas.

Furphy Family Art Wall with Jason Phu

Before Shepparton Art Museum’s Furphy Family Art Wall gets a fresh lick of paint, see Jason Phu’s intriguing and playful painting for the last time. His work responds to the idea that the waterways and river systems of the Goulburn Valley are the bearers and containers of the stories of generations of people who live here.

Luke Blaze Reborn

Blazing: It’s a show as hot as eating fire - Luke Blaze’s regional tour ‘Reborn’ is coming soon to Shepparton.

Australia’s youngest underwater escape artist is embarking on a regional tour that begins right here in Shepparton. On September 2, you could be the first to witness the magic of Luke Blaze as he transports, levitates, eats fire, and more! Audience members will be holding their breath as they witness Luke perform his death-defying stunts during the 90-minute culmination of dance and illusion.
