Greater Shepparton Secondary College recently had a science lesson that was out of this world.

The Year 10 physics and Japanese students took part in the online space design exercise, exploring the science of space travel.

Held on Monday, September 4, the day was a collaboration between the Japanese Embassy and experts from La Trobe University and Scienceworks.

The students conducted an experiment using scientific equipment at La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus, using their newfound knowledge to design a habitable moon base.

GSSC Year 10 students Ella Banawan and Kylaine Marquez said the day was enjoyable for several reasons.

“It was a fun day for us as we learned a lot of new things and we also became more creative,” Ella said.

“We planned to design a liveable moon base, such as planting trees to produce water and oxygen. We also added solar panels for heat and electricity,” Kylaine said.
