Hundreds of new paramedics have been recruited in Victoria this year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created record levels of demand for paramedic services with Ambulance Victoria recently experiencing its busiest two quarters on record.

Following a recruitment drive, more than 150 paramedics have joined regional crews in Victoria this year.

This includes 50 recruit paramedics in the Hume, central and northern region of Victoria.

Seymour is set to receive four new recruits from this latest intake.

“These more than 150 new paramedics are a huge win for regional Victoria with every part of the state from Portland to Bairnsdale to Mildura set to benefit,” Ambulance Services Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said.

Recruits begin with a four-week induction program, which gives them the core skills they need to hit the road.

Graduate paramedics then become fully credentialed after one year with professional development continuing throughout their career.

Ambulance Victoria is on track to recruit 700 paramedics this year, matching last year’s numbers. 2021 was the largest annual recruitment to date.
