New art wall: spatial deconstruction #30 (social fabric) by Emma Coulter at SAM.

There’s been an explosion of colour and creativity as Shepparton Art Museum introduces its latest Art Wall, set to launch on August 19.

This bold and captivating installation, titled spatial deconstruction #30 (social fabric), comes to life thanks to Victorian-based artist Emma Coulter.

As the fourth commission for the Furphy Family Art Wall on SAM’s Level 4, Ms Coulter’s creation promises to be a vivid response to the contemporary architectural landscape of the SAM building.

Ms Coulter’s artistic realm spans painting, sculpture, installation and public art.

Known for distinct geometric designs and a limited yet impactful colour palette, Ms Coulter’s work exudes a unique visual language that seamlessly ties her diverse mediums together.

Her latest installation takes SAM’s architectural elements and reconstructs them through her artistic lens.

The result?

A vibrant composition that captures both Ms Coulter’s individuality and an insightful reflection of the vertical geometry that defines SAM.

SAM exhibitions curator Jessica O’Farrell shared her excitement about the upcoming exhibition.

“Emma Coulter’s engagement with SAM’s scale and architecture has birthed a dynamic masterpiece that reshapes our perception of the building and its interior space,” she said.

“Her work brilliantly interweaves SAM’s identity as an ‘art container’ and a communal gathering space.

“Emma’s unique use of colour palette to create endlessly fresh compositions is truly captivating.”

Ms Coulter’s career includes extensive national and international exhibitions.

She is working on a range of exciting projects, including a significant integrated public artwork within Melbourne’s cultural precinct.

You can witness her latest creation, spatial deconstruction #30 (social fabric), at SAM from August 19 until May 2024.
