The Shepparton Festival is fast approaching and its two-week program, beginning Friday, March 17, is full to the brim with talent, particularly in the music sector.
Over two weekends, the members of feature act Broken Creek Band are inviting the community to join them in song.
Erin and Lachlan Heycox both had parents who were involved in bush bands, inspiring the two to appreciate the folk style of music. They have since started using their music to tell “Australian stories in Australian places”.
“The music we love comes from rural areas, where the community is strong and inclusivity is strong, so we are really excited to bring it back to a strong community like Shepparton,” Ms Heycox said.
They will be doing two concerts, one being a traditional-style concert on Sunday, March 19, and the other an experimental performance, walking next to the river, enjoying song and nature on Saturday, March 25.
Then, on the night of Saturday, April 1, four-piece band Wasteman will perform.
Wasteman frontwoman Charlotte Glover is joined by bass guitarist Glenn Davidson, drummer Bill Foster and lead guitarist Patrick Quinlan.
They play a Melbourne-style of indie rock; however, their music is “dynamic” and “something a little different”, Mr Foster said.
“We have an emphasis on lyrics and word play.”
This will be their first time performing in Shepparton and as a “DIY band, [they] love getting out there”, Mr Foster said.

Broken Creek in concert: Sunday, March 19, 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Kialla Central Hall.

Broken Creek walking concert: Saturday, March 25, 10am to noon. It starts on the eastern side of the pedestrian bridge over the Broken River, Kialla, and concludes downstream at the new pedestrian bridge near the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton.

Wasteman: Saturday, April 1, 8pm to 9pm at the Festival Hub, 14 Edward St, Shepparton.
