Kyabram is a charming country town known for its close-knit community and vibrant atmosphere. With a population of just over 7000 and serving a district of about 16,000, Kyabram embodies the spirit of regional living. The town’s name is believed to originate from the Aboriginal word “Kiambram”, meaning “thick forest”.
Kyabram boasts several attractions, including the Kyabram Fauna Park, the Kyabram Rodeo, the Kyabram Horse and Agricultural Show, the Kyabram Plaza Theatre and the Town Hall Gallery. For those old enough to remember, Kyabram once hosted some of the best B&S balls. It is also a great sporting town with ample retail options, making it well worth a visit. Conveniently situated between Echuca and Shepparton, Kyabram is known for its exceptional hospitality, exemplified by Café Three620.
Recommended by our good friend and local Kyabram identity, Steven Vick, Café Three620 did not disappoint. We loved it, and the food was fabulous. The owner, Andrew Robertson, uses the phrase “cooking up your new craving” for marketing, which is well-justified and will have us coming back.
The café is situated in the old post office, tastefully renovated to offer a cosy ambience. Andrew, an experienced chef who honed his trade at Cellar 47 in Shepparton, and other establishments, felt Kyabram was the perfect place for his family and appreciated the community’s support for his café.
He, in turn, is able to employ local people. The night we were there, we received great service from Andrew, his son Xavier, and staff member Darren. The menu caters to local tastes while offering interesting and varied dishes.
We started with a mezze plate featuring lovely home-made dips and the crispiest ciabatta bread. Our main courses included duck two ways with a spiced plum sauce and rustic mash, lamb fillet with red wine jus, and a superbly cooked eye fillet.
Three620 also offers a fabulous wine menu, heavily influenced by local and regional areas, particularly Heathcote. The sweets were equally delicious, with possibly the best chocolate caramel tart we’ve ever had and a fantastic sticky date pudding. The prices were moderate and really good value for the quality of the food.
Café Three620 Kyabram is closed on Mondays, open from Tuesday to Friday between 9.30am and 2.30pm, and then again from 5.30pm to 10pm for dinner. On Saturdays, it operates from 5.30pm to 11pm, and on Sundays, it's open from 10am to 2.30pm.
