The Copulos name has become synonymous with generosity and hospitality in the Goulburn Valley, a testament to the incredible contributions made by Peter and Maria Copulos and their family.

Through their foundation and long-standing dedication to Shepparton, the Copulos family have not only enhanced the local economy but also uplifted the community through countless acts of support and kindness.

The Parklake is a prime example of the elegance and excellence this family have brought to the region.

Originally a modest six-unit motel with a small restaurant, it was Shepparton’s introduction to fine dining and exceptional wines —a landmark establishment that has evolved into an iconic, high-quality accommodation and dining experience.

Today, the Parklake offers 100 rooms in varying styles and luxurious function rooms, becoming a premier location for events, conferences and celebrations in Shepparton.

From the finely crafted menu to the warm service staff, dining here remains as much a pleasure as it was in the early days, with the modern atmosphere blending fine cuisine and a more relaxed experience.

The comfort and views over Victoria Park Lake, especially at sunset, add to the unique dining experience that many locals and visitors have come to love.

Peter’s story began in 1948 when he arrived in Shepparton at eight years old from Greek Macedonia with his mother and brother.

This was the first time he had met his father, who had left Macedonia for Australia three months before Peter was born.

From the beginning, his family worked tirelessly, driven by resilience and a commitment to building a future.

Over the years, Peter, Maria and their family expanded the Parklake, which, along with their other ventures, became integral to the Copulos Group.

The restaurant, which is managed by Ferhat Sengoz and overseen by Peter’s son Stephen, reflects the family’s enduring values of quality, community and hospitality.

The Copulos family legacy extends beyond business success to the relationships they’ve fostered and the countless lives they’ve touched.

Known for their humility and willingness to give back, they have inspired many by offering mentorship and creating meaningful employment opportunities.

Their journey captures the spirit of Shepparton: resilient, inclusive and generous.

The family’s contributions continue to shape the region’s growth and put Shepparton on the map, celebrated not only for the quality of their business but also for the enduring kindness and care they bring to their community.

Our recent dinner at the Parklake was a delightful blend of nostalgia and admiration for a venue that feels woven into the fabric of our lives.

This place carries a rich legacy; nearly everyone has a connection here — friends and family who’ve worked, celebrated, met their partners or simply enjoyed an evening out, knowing they’d be met with excellent food and warm hospitality.

It was heart-warming to see the restaurant bustling with people from all walks of life — a bus group from Melbourne, a family birthday celebration, friends reuniting and a business gathering — all enjoying the lively yet refined atmosphere.

We were warmly greeted by Ferhat, whose hospitality was both welcoming and informative.

He shared our enthusiasm that the visitors from Melbourne would be impressed by all Shepparton had to offer, with the Parklake as a memorable highlight of their trip.

When it came to ordering, Ferhat guided us expertly through the menu, designed to cater to a variety of tastes and dietary needs.

His recommendations did not disappoint.

We began with a house-made duck spring roll, so delicious that sharing felt like a challenge!

For mains, we enjoyed oven-baked snapper with a vegetable medley and chimichurri, alongside Frenched lamb chops with salsa verde, Greek salad and asparagus — a beautifully balanced meal with rich, vibrant flavours.

We capped off the meal with a shared brandy snap basket for dessert, an indulgent finish that was just the right amount of sweetness.

The Parklake truly has it all: impeccable food, exceptional service and versatile spaces for dining, functions and accommodation.

It’s a venue that captures everything you’d want for a memorable outing or celebration in Shepparton.
