Campaspe Artists Studio Trail will become an annual weekend of open studios throughout the Campaspe Shire.
When Campaspe Artists Studio Trail organiser Dey Alexander moved to Kyabram 10 years ago, she found a really creative community that was not obvious to everyone.
“The idea behind the studio trail was to bring out the hidden creativity in our community into the open,” Dey said.
“The idea of a studio trail is not a new one.
“There are studio trails all over the place, but they tend to happen in areas where there are publicly known artistic communities.
“It is a bit more hidden in our area.
“I just wanted to do something that made that more visible to people, as well as giving our local artists an event that gives them a chance to develop a bigger market for their work, the opportunity to sell their work and develop relationships with potential collectors.”
Dey expects 25 artists or more to open studios in every part of the Campaspe Shire area.
Three community art spaces are opening up as part of the Campaspe Artists Studio Trail for artists who practice their art at the kitchen table and don’t have a publicly accessible space.
The Kyabram Town Hall Gallery, the Rushworth Art Depot and the Foundry Arts Space in Echuca are all part of the trail.
“The studio trail is a unique way of engaging with art because, unlike a gallery, people come along who wouldn’t consider themselves interested in art or might be intimidated by the whole exhibition gallery experience,” Dey said.
“We are trying to make this friendly event so people can actually meet the artists.
“The idea is to meet the artists in a less intimidating, more intimate space and rather than just looking at art, the artists will also be there.
“We are hoping that most of the artists will do some demos so that people can see how they make their art and ask questions.
“And maybe inspire more people to take up creative activities.”
Campaspe Artists Studio Trail will be held on February 22 and 23, 2025
