Fuelling futures: Students Jack Bradshaw and Jordan Carter are super excited for a dynamic week of STEM adventures at Guthrie Street Primary School.

At Guthrie Street Primary School, they will be putting the Spotlight on STEM during Education Week starting on Monday, May 13.

On Tuesday, May 14 their classrooms will be open to parents and grandparents to visit, and they will have a range of STEM-related activities for both adults and students to engage in.

“The teachers will be planning some activities around this theme for each of the classrooms,” Guthrie Street Primary School principal Brendan Bicknell said.

“There will also be an emphasis on science and numeracy this year as the department continues its focus around it too.”

He said the school would begin a conversation on the future of maths and science.

“What’s maths going to look like in the future, and what’s science going to look like in the future; is there going to be a lot of technology involved?”

Mr Bicknell also said having visitors to the school in Education Week was important.

“I think it’s great to get back to linking with the community and having the ability to always have a strong community base,” he said.

“Grandparents and parents are the fabric of a primary school — they do the drop-off and pick-up and look after their kids.

“It’s really important to acknowledge that, get them into our schools, and showcase what we’re doing.”
