Annual board gaming event ShepparCon made its return over the weekend.
From Friday, July 5 to Sunday, July 7, board gamers got together at the Terminus Hotel in Shepparton to play new games and old favourites.
Organised by the Goulburn Valley Gamers Guild, this edition was the largest in the venture’s history — with 164 attendees enjoying the festivities.
“It was the biggest number of people we’ve had through the door since we started this event,” GVGG president Quinton Sung said.
“(We’re) really happy with the turnout.
“(The) last couple of years it has grown. We are hoping to sell out next year’s event. The maximum the venue can host is 200.”
The event was one for all ages, with a variety of gaming enthusiasts in attendance.
“We sold 20 children’s tickets, they were between the ages of six and 15. The rest of the participants were between the ages of 16 and up to 70,” Mr Sung said.
“People can bring their own games to play or one of our things, (our) volunteers... will find a board game for you.
“We have about 200 of our own board games.
“Comedian Geoff Setty was a guest at the event. He ran five sessions on the game Blood on the Clocktower, an interactive social game like How to Host a Murder. The participants really enjoyed this.
“The feedback has been positive, mainly verbal — everyone enjoyed themselves, overall (it was) really positive.
“At the AGM (annual meeting) in August we’ll be starting to prepare for next year’s event.”
News photographers Megan Fisher and Rechelle Zammit went along to capture the gamers' happy faces.
- The Goulburn Valley Gamers Guild runs a fortnightly evening at the Peppermill, Shepparton every Thursday night from 6pm. The next event is Thursday, July 18. Anyone is welcome to attend.
