On Thursday, August 1, Verney Rd School celebrated a special relaunch.

Verney Rd School follows three core values: be safe, be respectful and be a learner.

“As a school, we use a positive behaviour framework, which guides our everyday interactions,” assistant principal Georgia Bell said.

The framework can be seen as providing the pillars to uphold the three core values.

“Our launch day was because we have redone our matrix of expectations.”

Ms Bell said the matrix, originally developed in 2014, needed a rework.

“We’ve done this redesign, to make sure it suits our new cohort, and to make sure it’s appropriate ahead of a campus transfer,” she said.

The school’s junior and senior year levels will soon split, with half the cohort to move to a new campus on the former Wanganui Park Secondary College site.

The new matrix reflects this and has been adjusted to fit the new digital age: adding focus on how to behave safely and respectfully online.

Celebrations were in order, and everyone from carers to parents to students were invited, to “show a collective ownership of the values”.

At the launch, representative images of the expectations were blown up on card, and students took a moment to collaborate, getting familiar with the new matrix through eager brush strokes.

The colourful works of art will be framed and displayed around the school, a reminder of the positive behaviours that ensure a safe, happy and fun experience for all.
