A close race: Where O’Sullivan rose above his teammates to win the Morrison Medal

Winding up: Seymour's Jack O'Sullivan.

The Morrison Medal is heading back to Seymour.

Jack O’Sullivan took out the Goulburn Valley Leagues’ best-and-fairest medal at an award ceremony on Monday evening.

This is the second time in three years that the Lions player has taken out the award, with teammate Ben Rigoni claiming the medal in 2022.

O’Sullivan was not the only Lions player who roared in the regular season, with players hitting league-high form.

The league’s best player had many of his teammates biting at his heels in the race for the top award.

Seymour’s league leaders

Ground-ball gets: Jack O’Sullivan (Seymour) and Will Hayes (Euroa) - 163

Hard-ball gets: Jack O’Sullivan - 93

Marks: Riley Mason - 161

Score involvements: Riley Mason - 148

O’Sullivan was dangerous when the ball hit the ground, co-leading the league with 163 ground-ball gets.

Will Hayes of Euroa, who was considered one of O’Sullivan’s biggest rivals for the Morrison Medal, achieved the same total.

O’Sullivan owned the hard-ball gets, tallying up 93 for the season.

In 2023, Seymour was a team that always found a way to get hands on the ball.

Seymour clean-swept the podium for the most marks in 2023, with forward Riley Mason taking out the top honours with 161, followed by Jack Murphy with 147 and Nathan Beattie with 146.

Mason also led the league in getting his team points on the board.

The forward had 148 score involvements in the 2023 season.

But no matter what statistics his teammates and rivals led the league in, O’Sullivan was the king of the jungle in 2023.
