Efficiency and effectiveness ― specifically out of defence ― are key pillars of Paul Barnard’s Tatura outfit.

The Bulldogs snared a tight win over Rochester in round 14 Goulburn Valley League action ― and again these traits were on display.

Tatura managed a total disposal efficiency of 74 per cent ― compared to Rochester’s 61 per cent ― including a 12 per cent swing in kicking efficiency (64-52).

The Bulldogs held the same gap over the Tigers in defensive exit efficiency percentage (62-50) and dominated forward 50 entry efficiency ― going at 65 per cent to Rochester’s 30 per cent.

Out of the top dozen players on the ground at Tatura Park ― ranked by disposal efficiency ― 10 of them were wearing the red, white and blue of the home side.

This included Billy Cooper (100 per cent from 16 disposals), Xavier Hutchison (92 per cent from 13) and Ash Quinn (90 per cent from 10).

In a league-wide sense, Tatura ranks highly in a number of these key categories.

The Bulldogs rank fifth in the Goulburn Valley League for total disposal efficiency with 70.7 per cent, third in handball efficiency with 84.2 per cent and third for defensive 50 exit efficiency with 66.8 per cent.

Tatura also leads the league in blocks per game (5.1), ranks fifth for spoils (15.6), sixth for uncontested marks (74.6) and sixth for rebound 50s (32.1).

Matt Rennie ranks second in the league for spoils per game with 3.1, while teammate Harley McCarthy is seventh with 2.3.

Mat Cornwall leads the competition for blocks per game ― with 0.8 ― and is joined in the top 10 by three of his fellow Bulldogs in Will Pyke (fourth), Brodie Meyers (sixth) and McCarthy (eighth).

Ethan Penrith also leads the league for overall pressure (11), is second for effective tackles (5.1) and among the top five for pressure acts and total tackles.
