On the move: Euroa’s Andrew Bell during his side’s win at the weekend.

Euroa got back to playing the way it likes to play on Saturday and in doing so got back to its winning ways.

Speaking after his side’s 37-point triumph, Euroa coach Scott Rowan said he was proud the Magpies were able to get back to playing their style of football.

Thanks to GVL Data, we can get a glimpse of how the Magpies performed statistically in the dominant win over Mooroopna.

In what was at times a heavily-contested match at Memorial Oval, the Magpies showcased their strengths on the outside.

Euroa chalked up 213 uncontested possessions, 59 more than the Cats, and starved its opponents of the ball.

The Magpies are ranked second in the competition for uncontested possessions and average 209 a game in 2022.

In the round 17 win the Magpies’ defence chipped the ball around and the outfit used its height advantage to chalk up 31 more marks.

Defender Jack McKernan was a pillar in defence with 21 disposals, 19 of those uncontested, 11 marks and four rebound 50s, while key tall Adam Giobbi had 19 touches and five rebound 50s.

But without the ball in their hands the Magpies were impressive in building pressure on the ball carrier.

Rowan’s charges laid a whopping 50 tackles in the first half and finished on 72 for the match.

Meanwhile, Euroa was able to win the clearance count by 10 and recorded 15 more inside 50 deliveries.
