GVL Data | How the Cats knocked out the Tigers

Solid performer: Mooroopna’s Isaac Dowling had 25 disposals at the weekend.

Mooroopna continued its march deep into September on Sunday, defeating Rochester at Echuca’s Victoria Park.

The young Cats did enough to secure a 32-point win in the elimination final encounter and thanks to GVL Data The News can look at how they produced another famous victory.

Looking at the stats the two sides were relatively even in a number of different areas, however, a dominant fourth quarter got Mooroopna over the line.

Seven points in front early in the last term ― the hoops turned it on ― with eight more inside 50s, 19 more disposals and nine more scoring shots than their opponents in the final stanza helping round out a famous win.

However, while in the last term the Cats hit the scoreboard, it was the second where they should have built a healthy lead.

Mooroopna had 12 more inside 50s than Rochester in the second quarter, yet poor kicking let it down, with one goal and seven behinds for the period.

This gave Rochester a window of opportunity, which it almost took in the second, with the Tigers having eight more forward 50 entries in the third quarter.

Despite this forward movement, Rochester’s kicking let it down, resulting in Mooroonpa holding its lead at three-quarter time and ultimately running away with the contest.
