Like Formula One speedster Max Verstappen, Mooroopna burst out of the blocks on Saturday afternoon.

The quick-starting Cats piled the pressure on the visiting Seymour team right from the beginning of their round 15 showdown, with an impressive first quarter setting the tone for a memorable victory.

With the power of GVL Data, it is easy to see the reason for Mooroopna’s early dominance.

In the first term the Cats had 16 inside 50s compared to Seymour’s five, with the home side locking the ball inside its forward half.

While Seymour led the disposal count by 16, the uncontested mark count by three and the one percenters by nine, the majority of these were at the Lions’ defensive end.

Yet despite the dominance of territory, the hoops only scored 38 per cent of the time they went inside the forward 50, leaving the game wide open after the first stanza.

As the contest wore on, supporters were treated to more of the same action.

Seymour’s passing game continued to grow its possession numbers, with the Lions collecting 92 more uncontested possessions for the four quarters than their opponents, while Mooroopna had 16 more contested possessions.

While the amount of times each side got the ball remained vastly different, across the rest of the statistics things remained relatively even, with the Cats’ early lead proving the difference come the final siren.
