GVL Data | Last time the Cats met the Tigers

Great performance: Mooroopna’s Liam Betson played well when the sides last met.

Mooroopna and Rochester are set to do battle for the second time this season on Sunday, with a do-or-die Goulburn Valley League elimination final pencilled in.

Coming off a memorable six-point win over Echuca last week, the Cats are sure to be full of confidence, while Rochester will also be up and about after securing a top four finish.

Utilising the power of GVL Data, The News decided to cast an eye back to the last time these two clubs met ahead of the big game.

In round 12 Mooroopna cruised to victory at home over Rochester, securing a 15.8 (98) to 5.12 (42) result.

The Cats had 65 more disposals, 29 more marks and 20 more tackles than their opponents on the day, with the hoops running riot.

Ethan Hunt was a player who stood out for the winning side with 33 disposals, while ruckman Liam Betson had 40 hit-outs and 19 ground ball gets.

In front of goal it was Chris Nield who led the way with eight majors, while Matt Deane had a day out with 17 tackles.

For Rochester, Blake Evans led the way with 25 touches and 16 rebound-50s, while Chris Jansen also put in a good spell with 16 contested possessions.

Despite the Tigers missing a number of their top-end talents for the round 12 encounter, looking back does provide a glimpse at how things could go on the weekend.

Mooroopna’s quick start certainly put it in the box seat for victory last time out, so the side will be aiming for another bright beginning this weekend.

The Tigers on the other hand will be looking to get plenty of the ball and with the teams now more even on paper, Sunday’s game should be a cracker.
