Rochester secured a monumental come-from-behind victory over Euroa in their round seven Goulburn Valley League clash, confirming themselves as genuine contenders after a giant-killing three-week stretch.
Facing a deficit of 13 points at three-quarter time, the Tigers kept Euroa goalless while slamming home three majors of their own to claim a magnificent six-point win.
Rochy edged its way in front with a dominant showing in the fourth term, which started with the home side getting its hands on the ball more, winning 97 disposals compared to Euroa’s 68.
It was also much more efficient with its ball use, going at 78 per cent while Euroa was far less accurate at just 62 per cent efficiency.
While Rochester turned the ball over more (20-18), it was able to defend on transition, conceding just 0.1 from that source, while punishing Euroa the other way, putting 3.2 (20) on the board from turnovers.
The Tigers put their head over the ball, winning 44 contested possessions to Euroa’s 34, and were productive at the coalface, topping the clearances 11-9 and getting first use which saw Rochy enter forward 50 on 14 occasions, compared to Euroa’s seven.
Trewhella’s big impact
Mitch Trewhella was instrumental in the final term, with the Rochy recruit the highest rated player on the ground in the fourth quarter.
Twelve of the on-baller’s 31 disposals came in the final term with the game on the line, the only player to record double-digits in this category, while he also won six contested possessions and six clearances to help his side across the line.
The tough nut powered the Tigers into attacking 50 on four occasions, logged a score involvement and a tackle and finished with 56 ranking points for the term, one of only three players to surpass 40 ranking points in the quarter.
