Follow the numbers: How did Seymour perform in 2022?

With the Goulburn Valley League season done and dusted for the bottom six clubs, it’s time to glance back at how those outfits performed in 2022.

Thanks to GVL Data, we can shine a spotlight on some of the key areas where sides excelled and where some sides need improvement in 2023.

This week we will take a look at how Seymour went about things this year.

The Lions were the hard luck story this season and missed out on finals by 0.19 per cent.

Injuries plagued Ben Davey’s side and at one stage the Lions were missing almost a dozen of their walk-in starters.

Looking at their on-field antics, there’s no denying that Seymour would have done some damage come September.

Seymour led the competition for best kicks and averaged 66 per cent disposal efficiency by foot.

The Lions ranked second for marks taken and third for most disposals.

Surprisingly, Seymour struggled in clearances despite its dominant midfield brigade.

Seymour ranked third last for clearances with 568 for the season.

Meanwhile, intercept marks was another area of their game that the Lions failed to fire in and they were ninth for hit-outs.

Seymour finished fifth in most clangers and fourth for most frees for in 2023.
