After a fine performance last week against Tatura, in which he accumulated 82 ranking points, Echuca’s Mitch Wales took his game to another level against Kyabram to help propel his side to yet another win.

Wales was named among the best, and his stats back that up, increasing his output in multiple categories from his round one outing.

The Murray Bombers midfielder recorded 25 disposals against Kyabram, up from his round one effort of 19, but importantly he used the ball effectively, his disposal efficiency of 76 per cent well above the team average of 67 per cent.

Wales had a greater influence defensively against Kyabram as well, racking up six intercept possessions and an intercept mark, as opposed to just two intercept possessions and no intercept marks in round one.

He recorded six marks total against the Bombers, an improvement upon his two in round one, while generating three inside 50s in comparison to his solitary venture forward against the Bulldogs.

And where he didn’t raise his output, Wales either matched it or came close.

Wales’s 10 contested possessions in round one was followed up with eight in round two, and was just one behind his tally of three rebound 50s, three tackles and six clearances in round one, notching totals of two, two and five in those categories respectively.

In terms of scoring, Wales was unable to make a direct impact on his team’s total as he did in round one, kicking a goal; however, he managed three score involvements, though this was down on his week one tally of five.

Overall, Wales was the third highest ranked player for Echuca in the round two clash, with 100 ranking points to his name, behind only Logan Prout (130 ranking points) and Sam Willoughby (101), in what has been an exceptional start to his season.
