Echuca’s Andrew Walker and Kyabram’s Toby Wooller both found plenty of the ball in round one, helping to secure wins for their respective sides in big individual efforts.
They will both be important again as their sides do battle in round two.
But just how exactly do they match-up after the first round?
For Kyabram, Wooller’s league-high 38 touches went at 68 per cent efficiency, turning the ball over 11 times. Walker also went at 68% per cent from his 32 disposals, although he recorded just five direct turnovers.
Walker was prolific at the coalface, winning 13 contested possessions along with eight clearances, while still applying good pressure, recording five tackles.
Wooller posted similar numbers, winning 11 contested possessions in comparison to Walker’s 13, but recorded half the number of clearances (four), and fewer tackles (three).
Wooller managed to generate more inside 50s than Walker (nine and five respectively), although neither player managed to have a direct impact on the scoreboard, as both ended without a goal.
Walker however recorded one more score involvement than Wooller (four compared to three).
Winning the ball off an opponent was a strength of both players, with Wooller recording a team-high five intercept possessions in Kyabram’s win over Rochester, while Walker matched that figure as Echuca comfortably accounted for Tatura.
Wooller’s ability to mark the ball was also a difference, recording 12 marks compared to Walker’s three, although just one from each player was contested.
