A man has been arrested in India over the suspected murder of Toyah Cordingley in far north Queensland four years ago.
The 24-year-old pharmacy worker and animal shelter volunteer was found dead on Wangetti Beach, north of Cairns, after taking her dog for a walk on October 21, 2018.
Queensland police say a man has been arrested in relation to the case in co-operation with Indian authorities.
"We can confirm a man has been arrested in India today following a significant investigation into the tragic death of Toyah Cordingley in Far North Queensland in 2018," they tweeted on Friday afternoon.
Numerous media outlets say the man is Indian national Rajwinder Singh, 38.
Queensland police have been hunting Singh, an Innisfail nurse who flew out of the country not long after Ms Cordingley's body was found, for four years.
Then federal assistant minister to the attorney-general, Amanda Stoker, sent an extradition warrant in relation to a suspect in the murder case to Indian authorities in March 2021.
Earlier this month, Queensland authorities offered a $1 million reward, the state's largest ever, for information leading to Singh's arrest.
