A homicide probe is underway after a 23-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound, unconscious and not breathing outside a property on a suburban Queensland street.

The young woman was chased and shot by two men in the moments before she was found outside the home in Caboolture, police say.

Officers were called to Railway Parade to reports of a targeted attack about 12.10am on Sunday.

There, they located the woman in an unconscious state where she was unable to be revived and declared deceased at the scene.

Detective Inspector David Harbison said the woman had been shot at by two men with investigators treating the matter as a homicide.

"Early investigations indicate the deceased was assaulted by two male persons who may have chased her down Railway Parade," he told reporters on Sunday.

"Police are investigating reports of up to three to four shots fired in that street."

During the assault the woman is believed to have received a gunshot wound.

Det Insp Harbison said police do not believe the incident was a random attack.

A number of witnesses are currently assisting police with no clear suspects on police radar.

"It was very dark... two males is about all we've got at the moment," Det Insp Harbison said.

"I want to reassure the public that a dedicated task force of local detectives along with specialist homicide detectives have been deployed to investigate this crime, the goal will be to bring the persons responsible to justice as quickly as possible," he added.
