A man who allegedly threatened police with a knife is dead after officers opened fire at a home in suburban Adelaide.
Officers were called to reports of a mental health incident involving a man hurting himself with the weapon at Craigburn Farm in the city's south just after midnight on Tuesday, police said.
South Australia Police allege the 40-year-old man turned the weapon on officers as they entered the home to check on him.
They unsuccessfully used a taser but the man allegedly continued to threaten officers with the knife before shots were fired.
Police say paramedics worked on the man while transporting him to hospital, where he died.Â
No police were injured during the incident.
Detectives from the major crimes squad, specialists from the forensic response section and the force's internal investigation team are probing what happened.
