Petstock Shepparton is encouraging Aussies to adopt a pet in need this month.

On Saturday, March 16, Petstock Shepparton will host its local animal rescue organisation as part of National Pet Adoption Month.

Over the past 10 years, the Petstock Foundation’s National Pet Adoption Month has helped find loving homes for 40,000 rescue pets across Australia and New Zealand.

But there are still more animals in need of homes.

There are currently over 8000 pets at shelters, rescue groups, pounds and vets across Australia awaiting adoption, and with the rising costs of everyday expenses, it is predicted that this number will continue to rise.

Petstock Foundation strategic manager Jessica Curtis said adoption was beneficial for both the owner and the animal.

“There are so many wonderful benefits of pet ownership, including reducing feelings of loneliness, opening up opportunities for social interaction and increased overall happiness,” she said.

“Pets and people truly are better together.”

Shepparton Petstock will be hosting an adoption day on Saturday, March 16.
