2023 Greater Shepparton Volunteer Recognition Awards celebrate outstanding contributions
In a night filled with gratitude and appreciation, the 2023 Greater Shepparton Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony held on Monday, May 15 honoured the region’s most exceptional volunteers for their remarkable contributions to the community.
The event, held at Riverlinks Eastbank in Shepparton, drew an enthusiastic crowd of 240 attendees. At the same time, about 600 people joined the live stream.
Now in its 14th year, the ceremony garnered an impressive number of nominations, demonstrating the widespread commitment to service within the region.
Volunteers from diverse backgrounds devoted their time to various organisations, service clubs and sporting groups, leaving an indelible mark on the community they served, and 39 of these nominees were acknowledged for their exceptional efforts.
This year’s awards showcased the incredible dedication and selflessness of three outstanding individuals and one remarkable community group, who have tirelessly supported the Greater Shepparton community.
“While every nomination we received was deserving of an award, the winners were carefully selected for their impressive display of dedication to their community over a number of years,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“These awards recognise that their effort and commitment are acknowledged and appreciated.”
The recipients included 2023 Young Volunteer Kimberley Chu, Adult Volunteer Norman Davis, Long Serving Volunteer Gregory Pell and Team Volunteer Mooroopna Football Netball Club.
Ms Chu arrived in Australia in 2020, and since then she has dedicated her time to volunteering throughout the community and has positively contributed to Greater Shepparton. She is a great example to other young people of the power of volunteering within the community.
Mr Davis has volunteered tirelessly for his community, dedicating his life to the Mooroopna Football Netball Club, and is involved in several other organisations. He is highly regarded locally and sets a wonderful example for other community members and volunteers.
Mr Pell has been an outstanding citizen in Merrigum and deserves recognition within the wider community. He has juggled owning a business, running a farm, raising a family and volunteering for numerous groups. Volunteering in the community for the greater good for over 30 years, he is truly an inspiration.
During the October 2022 floods, the Mooroopna Football Netball Club stepped up to help its devastated town and went over and above to help organise a clean-up army on October 22. The club members’ efforts and leadership were outstanding. What the club board, players, supporters and others achieved in one day was phenomenal.
