Thirty businesses have already registered as a stop on the Halloween trick or treat route next week, and more are invited to register.
It’s all part of the annual Halloween Street Party, hosted by the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group, which will take place next Thursday, October 31.
The festivities will begin about 3pm from the front of the Deniliquin Multi Arts Centre, with service providers setting up stalls around this area and along the Cressy Street side of Waring Gardens.
Occurring during Mental Health Month and with the theme ‘Mental Health; It’s not as scary as you think’, the event aims to reduce stigma about mental health and help-seeking.
It also promotes the importance of being kind in maintaining wellbeing for ourselves and those around us.
An integral part of this event is the safe trick or treat routes through the central business area, where participants can take a walk, look at decorations and collect treats along the way.
Businesses who register for this event can either provide their own treats or be provided with a bag of lollies and treats to hand out whilst interacting with the kids and families as they take a walk.
Deni MHAG member Lourene Liebenberg said the Halloween Committee will start handing out the pre-packed bags to the businesses this week.
“This event relies on our businesses to get involved, and we are so thankful for the support we are receiving this year,” she said.
“We have seen an amazing community response to our call out for sponsors, donations of prizes and volunteers wanting to be involved.
“It is not too late to register a business or organisation. Businesses along Cressy Street, Napier Street and George Street are all welcome to join in.”
