A pop-up shop worth breaking up with fast fashion for

No-one likes a quitter, but in this case an exception can be made.

The GV Wardrobe is a sustainable alternative to fast fashion giants and its latest pop-up shop will open tomorrow for two whole weeks of in-person retail therapy.

A new location, at 12 North St, Shepparton, will house nearly 2000 clothing items ranging from women’s sizes 4 to 26 and men’s sizes XXS to XXXL.

The pop-up shop will be equipped with change rooms, cash or card payment options and every item going for a mere $10.

The GV Wardrobe founder Sam Spinks considers the pop-ups as trial runs to see what opening a permanent store might look like.

“The priority is always going to be online, that’s where it all started and that’s part of The GV Wardrobe vision,” she said.

“But this is a great opportunity for people who prefer in-store shopping to come down, feel the clothes and try things on.”

Ms Spinks is grateful for the support of community members and their embrace of the concept thus far.

“Last year’s pop-up had an amazing turnout — and that was just one weekend,” she said.

“This time, we’re open for two whole weeks — that’s three weekends — and it will give people a lot more time to shop when it suits them.

“Plus, there’ll be new items added throughout the two weeks, which gives customers a reason to come back.”

They say when people talk about their passions it lights up a room, and Ms Spinks does just that when explaining her business’s contribution to ending fast fashion.

“Fashion is cyclical — items circulate in and out and The GV Wardrobe provides accessibility, affordability and sustainability to shoppers,” she said.

“Money spent on good clothes that are no longer of use to people is their hard-earned money and they gain satisfaction from donating it and receiving a $2 coupon to spend at GV Wardrobe in return.”

That’s a free piece of clothing for every five items donated.

Ms Spinks said that was how The GV Wardrobe competed against fast fashion — an incredible range of styles and brands at fast fashion prices.

Now that’s a dress for success.

The GV Wardrobe will be open from Saturday, January 7 to Sunday, January 22 at 12 North St, Shepparton.
