Festive red ribbons are bringing a burst of holiday cheerfulness to Tallarook St in Seymour.

The ribbons on the street’s trees are the work of Go Seymour member Carly Eldredge.

“They (the Go Seymour committee) like to call me Mrs Christmas,” Ms Eldredge said.

“I’m usually responsible for making Seymour look a little bit prettier at Christmas time.”

She said since the existing decorations in town were limited, Go Seymour decided to contribute.

“We’re just looking for something that was cost-effective but looked very effective and bright,” she said.

So, she posted a call on social media for volunteers to bring her ideas to life.

“I said I need some help putting up decorations,” she said.

“Tallarook St is the perfect place to decorate those beautiful trees.”

“The volunteers are just passionate community members who just wish the best for Seymour.”

There are 68 trees along Tallarook St, and Ms Eldredge used 200m of tulle to decorate.

“When I got the order from Spotlight ... the postman is like ‘what are you doing?’,” she said.

Ms Eldredge said she responded: “Crazy ideas.”

Armed with scissors and staple guns, Ms Eldredge and her volunteers — Guy Eldredge, Kimberley White, Bev and Milky Manning, Genevieve Gordon, Karen Ponyiczky, Marc Harvey and Kristy Connaughton — spent over an hour decorating the street.

This is the first time Ms Eldredge has put up these decorations for Christmas, and she hopes to do more next year.

“We’ll just keep adding to our collection every year,” she said.

“Hopefully, we should be able to reuse ... get our hands on some tulle and start doing some other areas around town.”
