A yee-haw in Muckatah

The big bucks: Katamatite’s first rodeo will be a fun-filled event to kick off the new year.

Saddle up and be a part of history as the Katamatite Lions Club hosts the inaugural Katamatite Rodeo on Saturday, January 7.

Muckatah Recreation Reserve on Sandmount Rd is 300m west of Benalla-Tocumwal Rd and will serve as the location for all things riding and roping.

At 3.30pm the gates will open and attendees can mosey on in and enjoy an atmosphere of live music, kids’ amusements, food stalls and bar service.

Then at 6.30pm, it’s rodeo go time.

Katamatite Lions president and event manager Andrew Moffatt said the evening’s events would captivate audience members and get everyone in the spirit of the day.

“We have so many events on offer: saddle bronc ride, bull ride, bare back bronc ride, rope and tie, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel race and breakaway roping,” he said.

“We tried to think of everything, and include kids in the action too, with a junior steer ride and junior barrel race.”

Mr Moffatt encourages everyone to spread the word, attend the event and support the community, or risk missing out.

“We want everyone to get involved, especially since all our Lions Club members are volunteers and everything raised will go back into our local region and its people,” he said.

“When we fundraise for any cause, 100 cents in the dollar goes to that cause.

“What we really don’t want is for anyone in our community to wake up on January 8 and realise that there was a great rodeo event in their local area and they missed the opportunity to be a part of it.”

Early bird tickets are still available to purchase on ticketebo, and more event information can be found on the Katamatite Rodeo Facebook page.
