Speculation that one of the area’s biggest events would not be held this year has been quashed.

Berrigan Shire Council last week confirmed it had entered into a new agreement with the Australian Aerobatic Club Victorian Chapter (AACVC) for the Victorian Aerobatics Championship to return to Tocumwal this September.

The agreement follows constructive discussions to re-establish the long-standing and successful relationship between the AACVC and Berrigan Shire since 2007.

Over the past three years, the partnership has faced challenges regarding access fees at Tocumwal Aerodrome.

Despite these hurdles, both AACVC and Berrigan Shire staff have worked collaboratively to reach an agreement, acknowledging the history of successful events in Tocumwal and paving the way for future co-operation.

“We are thrilled to have reached an agreement allowing the Victorian Aerobatics Championship to be held at Tocumwal” council CEO Karina Ewer said.

“This outcome reflects our commitment to ensuring the use of Tocumwal Aerodrome remains fair and equitable and considers the impacts on the ratepayers of the Berrigan Shire.

“We are excited about the continued collaboration with AACVC’.

AACVC secretary Charles Greatrex echoed the sentiments, praising the “positive progress made with Berrigan Shire”.

“The agreement to host the 2024 Victorian Aerobatics Championship in Tocumwal is a testament to our shared vision of maintaining a vibrant aerobatic community in the region.

“We look forward to finalising a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding that will benefit the local community’.

The Victorian Aerobatics Championship is scheduled to take place from September 11 to 14, with practice sessions in the three days leading up to the event.

While the championship is a competitive event, it is not open to the general public.

The AACVC and Berrigan Shire are committed to ensuring minimal disruption to the Tocumwal Aerodrome community.
