Southern Cross Care Karinya joined the nationwide celebration of Aged Care Employee Day, a heartfelt tribute to the 370,000 dedicated professionals across Australia who care for over 1.5 million older Australians on August 7.

The day, marked by festivities and gratitude, shone a spotlight on the essential role of aged care workers and their extraordinary commitment to those they serve.

Southern Cross Care Karinya, an 84-bed facility nestled in a serene residential area in Corowa with picturesque views of vibrant gardens and grazing paddocks, hosted a special event to honour its team of aged care superheroes.

Regional Manager Jennifer Tull emphasised the importance of recognising the exceptional efforts of Karinya's staff.

“Southern Cross Care believes all the staff are aged care superheroes! It is important that their hard work, commitment, and passion for aged care are acknowledged and celebrated,” Ms Tull stated.

“It takes a special person to work in aged care, and the way our dedicated carers, nurses, and support staff make a difference every day is truly extraordinary. This is why we believe they are superheroes and should be celebrated as such.”

In a nod to the superhero theme, the celebration included a BBQ lunch, cupcakes, and hot chocolate bags for staff to enjoy at home.

The day was designed not only to recognise, but also to celebrate the tireless efforts of Karinya's staff, who were described as “kind, respectful, highly skilled, and passionate” by Ms Tull.

Karinya aged care residents, including Marion Prosser, Janice Carmichael, and Valma Crumps, were among those who expressed their gratitude, praising the warm and caring nature of the staff.

As the nation pauses to recognise the vital work of aged care workers, Southern Cross Care Karinya's celebration served as a powerful reminder of the difference these "superheroes" make in the lives of older Australians every day.
