It was the event that brought together members from across the political spectrum.

To celebrate the Albanian community in Australia, Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell co-hosted the ‘Parliamentary Friends of Albania’ gathering on Monday, November 25, at Parliament House with Federal Member for Adelaide Steve Georganas.

Capturing the essence of the culture, the Shepparton Albanian Society collaborated with the MPs to organise a feast for the eyes and the belly.

Hands twirled, legs flailed, and emotions flared as traditional dances were performed, captivating the audience as they grazed on Albanian doughnuts and pies made by Stanley’s Cafe owner Karen Resul.

“(They) made the event memorable,” Mr Birrell said.

“Community is at the heart of our local Albanian Society, and its members were instrumental in making the event a success.”

Mr Birrell expressed pride in the wonderful event, noting that over 60 attendees from the Shepparton and wider Australian Albanian community joined the festivities alongside a dozen federal members and senators, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

“(Everyone present) learnt about the history of the Albanian community in Australia, met the people, and recognised the ongoing relationship of the two countries,” he said.

“People of Albanian descent are making huge contributions to our nation.

“The evening was to celebrate them and our growing friendship with this burgeoning European country.”
