Headspace Shepparton is opening its doors to reconnect with the community this Thursday, on the national day of support for the mental health and wellbeing of young Australians.

Everyone is welcome to the open day, not just young people, and it follows this year’s headspace Day theme, ‘Pause. Reflect. Reconnect’.

“The idea is for us to open our doors and have a chat about mental health in line with October being Mental Health Awareness Month,” community awareness co-ordinator Naynika Bagrecha said.

“We want to reconnect with the community, young people, families and other organisations, and show people our welcoming, inviting and safe space.”

On the day there will be a barbecue, art activities and clinicians available to talk about the services on offer through headspace.

On Saturday, October 8, headspace is collaborating with local artists to host two free workshops at its centre for young people aged 12 to 25.

From 10am to 1pm, Kez R Art will host an art journalling workshop about creating a visual diary to record thoughts, memories and emotions through art.

From 2pm to 4pm, Mimi Leung is running a ‘How to draw badly’ session where participants will design their own coffee cup and run through some other drawing exercises.

All materials will be provided for the workshops and booking is required at form.jotform.com/222678633194868

The open day runs from 10am to 3pm on Thursday, October 6 at headspace, 129 High St, Shepparton.
