Alleged arsonist charged over series of fires

A man has been charged over a series of alleged arson incidents, including an allegedly stolen car set on fire in Arcadia South in August.

Police allege the car was set on fire about 8.30am on August 24.

The other alleged arson incidents include:

  • A fire on the Northern Hwy in Moranding, north-west of Kilmore, where hay bales were allegedly set on fire near a property about 5am on February 3.
  • A suspicious fire on Bromfields Rd in Northwood, north-west of Seymour, about 3.45pm on February 17. It is alleged the fire was deliberately lit, before it spread about 1.2km towards Cowles Rd.
  • A second fire in Moranding on the Northern Hwy, where 20 hay bales were allegedly set alight just after midnight on March 4.
  • An allegedly deliberately lit grass fire near Northwood and Bromfields Rds in Northwood about 1.40pm on March 18.
  • A car fire, in which an allegedly stolen vehicle was set on fire on Moores Rd in Flowerdale about 4.30am on April 29.

There were no injuries in any of the incidents.

On Thursday, September 7, Mitchell Crime Investigation Unit detectives searched a Seymour property.

A 21-year-old Seymour man’s charges include recklessly causing a bushfire, criminal damage by fire, stalking, drug possession and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

He has been released on bail to appear before Seymour Magistrates’ Court in October.
