If you’ve ever wondered, “is there more to life than this?” then the Alpha program may be the beginning of your journey of inquiry.

The program aims to “introduce people to an initial proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ” and will run at St Brendan’s Parish from February 27 until June 5.

It enables people to ask questions, share ideas, build friendships and experience the love of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Alpha program team leader Sister Agnus Murphy said the program would build community and for those who attended it would “renew” their faith in the fundamental truths of the Christian faith.

Alpha has a series of interactive sessions exploring the Christian faith. Every session is different, but they have three things in common: food, a video presentation and good conversation.

St Brendan’s Parish Priest Fr Joe Taylor said Alpha was a short course on Christianity that looked at what faith was about and how we connected with God — “those big questions of life”.

He encouraged everyone to leave their comfort zone and join the program.

“Be brave, be courageous, go for it, and you’ll never, ever regret it,” he said.

The program is open to anyone, with the only requirement being your time and, if desired, sharing your thoughts with others in a non-judgmental environment. There will be breaks for any holiday periods, and childcare is provided for those requiring it.

St Brendan’s pastoral associate Anthony Kilmartin said for many people who had come through Catholic education, that was where their awareness of God finished.

However, this program is an opportunity to broaden and awaken a new understanding of God and what God means to them.

Mr Kilmartin emphasised that attendees did not need any knowledge or preconceived ideas.

“People come here, and they think that we’re going to maybe Bible-bash them,” he said.

“It’s not about that.”
